GETTING HEALTHY – One Step At A Time!

“END THE TREND” of obesity is the Beachbody motto this year and people are taking notice, making changes and getting fit!  Whether to take the step towards a healthier lifestyle is a personal decision and one that often comes when people are just tired of being tired.

That is exactly one of the reasons Jennifer decided to make some healthy changes in her life.  She had a wedding in a few months (her own), she was “sick and tired of being overweight” and “sick of making excuses.”   A year ago, before she hopped on the healthy lifestyle wagon, she said she would find excuses NOT to change.   Her choices then were dependent on how she felt and what mood she was in and often used that as an excuse to eat.

Jennifer started her weight loss journey with Concepts in Weight Management in July  2010 and has lost 66 pounds since then.    Read on about her story:

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO START THE PROCESS?  I had a wedding coming up and I just wanted to feel better.

WHAT DID YOU DO FOR EXERCISE?   I used an eliptical machine for a while and worked up to about an hour.  Then I tried Power 90 which included weight resistance work.   I also did 3 months of TurboFire which really pushed me!   I tried jogging for a while but am back to using the eliptical machine about 5 days a week.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHANGE YOU MADE TO YOUR DIET?  The biggest change I made to my diet is that I have stopped eating fast food. I use to eat fast food multiple times a week or sometimes several times a day! I have also incorporated fruits, veggies, & whole grains into my diet. Plus, I have cut way back on going out to eat and drinking soda too.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHANGE YOU NOTICED?  Feeling better and having more energy.  I don’t feel as depressed and lethargic.  I feel more positive about reaching my goal!  I also was able to get off my blood pressure medication and now my blood pressure runs on the low side.

WHAT OBSTACLES GET IN THE WAY AND HOW DO YOU REFOCUS?  The main thing that makes it difficult is social events and weekends.  We might go out of town or indulge in “yummy” foods which make it difficult to stay on track.   I don’t feel very well now after I eat some of those foods that I  love so it makes it easier not to go overboard, knowing how I’ll feel later.   It’s easier to ask myself “Do I even need to be eating that?”

WHAT IS YOU “WHY”?   WHY DO YOU WANT THIS?   WHAT KEEPS YOU FOCUSED?  I keep focused on my weight goal.   I have a goal in my head that I want to make and that keeps me on track.   I do this for myself and to see if I can do it.  I’m also buying smaller clothes which makes me motivated; and I’m healthier!
